Overview
Clinical Nutrition Department of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital was established in 2012. The medical team is comprised of 11 members including doctors, clinical dietitians and a nurse, operating both outpatient clinics and inpatient nutrition management service for the complete spectrum of nutritional related medical problems. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to provide high quality nutrition care for each individual.
Conditions Treated
Clinical Nutrition Department provides nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and counseling for adult inpatients and outpatients.
We provide medical nutrition therapy for:

· Further nutritional follow-ups post hospitalization
On this basis, some patients also can counsel through online outpatient service. This enhances continuity of clinical nutrition management from the hospital setting, to outpatient visits, and back home.
Leadership
Chen Xiaotian, associate chief physician, MD, National Registered Dietitian, engages in clinical nutrition work for more than ten years with advanced professional knowledge and nutritional management skills of various diseases, especially all kinds of complicated cases. As an expert in clinical nutrition field, she plays professional roles in numerous national academic organizations including Professional Committee of Jiangsu Maternal and Child Nutrition Society, Nanjing Nutrition Society, Nutrition Division of Obesity Management of Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, Youth Committee of Jiangsu Nutrition Physicians Professional Committee.
Research &Achievement
Clinical Nutrition Department conducts researches mainly in the following areas: “comprehensive prevention and treatment on non-diabetic macrosomia”, “the correlation between maternal body composition, nutrition during pregnancy and fetal birth weight and its clinical application”, “the influence of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet on maternal body composition and neonatal birth weight in GDM pregnant women”, ”the efficacy of the DASH diet with respect to improving pregnancy outcomes in women with hypertensive disorders”, “the standardized management for overweight and obese pregnant women to improve the pregnancy outcome”, “medical nutrition therapy based on postprandial blood glucose response to improve blood sugar and pregnancy outcomes in women with GDM”,“the effect of early enteral nourishing feeding joint peripheral parenteral nutrition on the treatment of hyperemes is gravidarum”, “effects of whey protein preloading on blood glucose and pregnancy outcomes in patients with GDM”.
In the past five years, clinical nutrition department has undertaken 9 provincial and municipal scientific research projects, and totally published 17 scientific articles, including 8 SCI.
Education & Training
In the past three years, we held national continuing education program "Drum Tower Clinical Nutrition Therapeutic Forum" every year with the intention to exchange ideas and knowledge for facilitating research, clinical interdisciplinary collaborations focusing on various nutrition-related problems.
The department also functions as a national practice-based teaching spot for registered dietitian, providing internships for dietetics students of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Xu Zhou Medical University and offering continuing education for individual with clinical nutrition and related background nationwide throughout the year.
